Here’s the official bio:

Longtime North Carolina journalist and musician. I most recently reported on 2022 U.S. Senate race for StatesNewsroom & NC Policy Watch. For the decade before that, I reported on state politics and public policy as a member of the Capital Press Corps for Carolina Public Press and the Washington Post and on environmental, climate change and energy policy for Coastal Review.

Prior to that I was a reporter for the Chapel Hill News and News & Observer covering local government, higher education and K-12 education (their archives don’t go back to that era). I was also Managing Editor of The Independent Weekly (you know it as Indy week) and co-founder and editor of the fondly-remembered Carrboro Citizen weekly. All these sites have messy archives and they really should do something about it.

I started this blog/newsletter to do some curated aggregation of local news and various items of interest. Local is defined as Orange County w/ some Chatham, Durham & Alamance.

I am also in the process of reviving my Carolina Mercury substack , which highlights state and national public policy, events, analysis and various shark and bear sightings. We’ll see how that goes.
